Robot vacuums for carpet: what works

Vacuum-only or combo, what testers measured, and each robot’s carpet rating.

Robot vacuums keep carpet tidy, but Consumer Reports says that for deep cleaning, especially carpet, you still need an upright or canister vacuum. It also found that most vacuum and mop combos clean carpet less well than robots that only vacuum (June 22, 2026). RTINGS’ top pick for carpet is the Dreame X50 Ultra (Aug 31, 2026).

Vacuum only, or a combo?

If most of your floors are carpet, a vacuum-only robot has fewer parts and no wet mop to keep off the pile. SwitchBot lists no mop for the SwitchBot K11+, the only robot here without one. If you have hard floors too, pick a combo that lifts or detaches its mop on carpet.

What the testers measured

In Vacuum Wars’ carpet deep-clean test, the Dreame L60 Ultra PE scored 94%, which Vacuum Wars calls the second-highest result among nearly 200 robots. Of the robots on our site, it reports 89% of embedded sand removed for the Roborock Saros 20 and 87% for the eufy Omni S2 (Oct 14, 2026).

Carpet and rug ratings, robot by robot

Only two of the eleven robots here, the Roborock Saros 20 and the eufy Omni S2, have a published carpet or rug limit. For the others, check what the robot does with its mop. Thick rugs has a longer list, including robots that aren’t in our finder.
